Statement from Liverpool
Jota was on his summer break from football after helping Portugal win the UEFA Nations League. That final against Spain in Munich on June 8 was his last match. Liverpool players are due to return to training for the upcoming season on Monday. However, Jota’s participation in the Nations League would have given him some extra time before returning to Liverpool. Liverpool Football Club announced its deep sadness at the player’s tragic death. The club added: “”Liverpool Football Club will not be making any further comment at this time and requests that the privacy of Diogo and André’s family, friends, teammates, and club staff be respected as they try to cope with this immense loss. We will continue to offer them our full support.”
